As the second card in the Tarot deck, The Magician moves things forward.  What The Fool dared to initiate, the Magician manifests. It is numbered 1 (one), the beginning of turning hopes and dreams into reality.

When we encounter The Magician, we are seeing that all our hard work, be it an apprenticeship, a traineeship, or study, is worth it.  We are now possessed of all the skills we need to move forward with our plans.

I am often moved to ruminate over our dark nights of the soul, as I increasingly find that people who come to me for spiritual counselling are at some stage of a struggle through their dark night of the soul.

When using tarot for guidance, the Death card invariably comes up for these situations.  It is a reminder that we need to let go, experience the loss, the darkness, in order to be re-born into a new way of being, thinking or doing, depending on what we are dealing with.

As the very first card in the Tarot deck, The Fool plays a significant role. It is numbered 0 (zero), so full of potential yet not manifest.

When we encounter The Fool, it represents ourselves – and a new beginning.
